Back to Square One

No, I’m not talking about the Square One Mall in Saugus, Massachusetts…I’m talking about doggie day care. I was all excited this morning to have Tiffany inform me that Brownstone Pet Sitting (a member of Pet Sitters International) was willing to take us on as a client and that she would come by this evening to meet with us and Dusty.

But hours later she called to cancel because she “subcontracts” her services on Tuesdays and her subcontractor is unable to get to our condo easy enough (even though we are in the heart of he city).

So, we’re back to square one…the starting line, starting from scratch. I’ve contacted what feels like dozens of other pet-sitting companies and am hoping for a rapid response, but so far all I’ve spoken with are answering machines.

I never would have guessed that this was such a significant industry in Boston. Maybe I’m in the wrong field?

I am fascinated by this whole dog sitting thing. Are you talking about hiring someone to come in your home during the day while you’re at work to look in on your dog?

Seriously? You guys pay for this? This is an actual service industry in the big city?

I just put a pee pad down on the bathroom floor, fill up the food and water dishes and close the door. Dog sleeps and eats all day, goes for a walk when I get home, then snuggling together for the evening.
