A Nice Night
Despite the memories yesterday brought up, I ended up having a very good night. My office computer was being upgraded to Windows XP so I had no computer after noon. But that worked out well since I had a 3 PM appointment with my tax accountant to go over the four tax returns I have to file this year (mine, Regina’s, Regina’s estate and Regina’s trust).
I then went to Flour – a bakery/cafe in the South End – and had some green tea and a chocolate chip cookie. I sat there reading for about an hour before walking down the street to my friend, Heath’s place. We sat around in his living chatting for a few hours before getting hungry and discussing what to do for dinner.
For the past year he had been raving to me about the onion rings at Kelly’s Roast Beef. I’m serious! So when he asked what I wanted to do for dinner, I proposed Kelly’s. He lit up like a kid in a candy store at the prospect of eating there. We put on our shoes and coats and the next thing you know we were on our way.
Eerily enough, and without planning this intentionally, I checked my watch at about 6:25 PM – just 2 minutes before the exact time that Regina died a year ago. Even more creepy was that, also unintentionally, Heath and I were in Chelsea at the time – which is where Regina was living when she died (although she passed away at a hospital in Cambridge). I was literally two streets away from her condo when 6:27 PM rolled around. Interesting – especially considering I’m NEVER in that city.
Anyway, we ended up at Kelly’s on Route One where I got the shrimp platter. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was big shrimp (versus popcorn shrimp). The onion rings were good, but I have to admit that I’d tasted better. I won’t tell Heath – he was simply too happy to have finally found somebody willing to go to Kelly’s with him.
He dropped me off at my home and I popped on-line only to find Mike there (who is rarely on Yahoo Instant Messenger). We ended up chatting for a few hours. It’s funny. I blogged about this previously, but I do find that I (and others) seem to open up a bit more when chatting on-line versus on the phone or face-to-face. Needless to say, it was a great conversation: lots of fun.
We talked about getting together tonight but he called me this morning to say he forgot about a board meeting he has tonight. He said I could come over after that (around 8PM) but that would interfere with my “stories” (Will and Grace, My Name is Earl, the Office). So, I’m now not sure what to do tonight. Either way, we’re still going to get together on Saturday…and then again on Sunday to join Sven and his boyfriend for dinner. Should be fun.

Karl, do you ever spend any time alone? 😉
XP works much faster & better; I think you’ll be happy with it. And it lets you reset the “look” back to Windows Classic if you don’t like the look of XP interface.
I’m taping Earl & the Office if you miss it!
. . . and I say NEVER let television be the reason for spending a fun night with anyone (assuming you want to spend time with them). In this era of taping and endless reruns, spending time with people is much more important. Not meaning to get mushy, but spending time with a person is a moment that will only happen once and will never be available for taping or on a re-run. 🙂
I meant to say “for NOT spending a fun night” . . . sorry!
Brad makes a good point. Quite a while ago I decided to devote myself to live performance rather than TV, video or too many movies. I do some of those, but I’m out constantly in theaters, concert halls and the rest seeing real actors, singers, dancers and people–in the audience, backstage, afterwards for drinks–to experience and discuss their art and each other. I know I’m always better in a group, live performance situation than just watching something passively and alone.
yah, Karl, poor Mike, blown off for Will and Grace, are you sure it’s even on?
Now if it were Smallville, I cold see it……..
Maybe……
Karl, I enjoyed hearing about your friend Regina, sorry that I hever had the opportunity to meet her.(no pictures on your photo-albumn?)I think somewhere in your subconcious you may have wanted to put yourself in the path of her energy. It may be a good subject for your next “session” think about it. Still waiting a slice of your time.. but I think your schedule is even tighter than mine! Love ya.
There are no coincidences,Snarling. I’m with Big Momma on this one. xxoo
