Back to the New Routine

It’s over….no more vacation for me (until next Friday…more on that later). Looking back, it was (overall) a rather restful break. Things didn’t always go as planned (NYC was a bust, sister-in-law back in the hospital and having surgery today)…but I did manage to catch up on sleep and just lay low.

And now I’m in my new office, in my new job and beginning the next chapter of my life and my career at Harvard.

Career. HMMM – I’ve never really thought of myself as having a career. I really just work. I mean, the architecture/design degree would have led me to a “career” in that industry if I had stuck with it. But that’s not what I wanted (or enjoyed). HMMM – I guess what I have now is a career. I’ve been at Harvard over 5 years and have been promoted…sounds like a career path to me, I guess.

Anyway, when I start rambling I know it’s time to switch subjects.

The new Instinct Magazine arrived over the the break and they’ve changed the format a bit. It’s not bad…they’ve added section where they profile a gay blogger in each issue. HMMM – how do I get Instinct Magazine to discover MY blog?

Though, it appears that in addition to discussing your blog, the magazines also does a photo spread of the actual blogger…scantily clad with ample* flesh exposure. I’m not so sure I’ve got “the look” for that. Still, the offer would be nice! DAMMIT, Instinct…where’s my invitation?

OK – rambling again. Do you sense a pattern here?

Well, back to the first paragraph..I’m flying down to Washington, DC with Mike a week from Friday (Martin Luther King birthday weekend). We’ll be staying with my friend, Chris. I can’t wait….it’s been a year since I’ve been down there and I had a blast last time. I can’t believe how fast it crept up on me, though. I intended to order the plane tickets nearly a month ago but my superior procrastination capabilities got the best of me. We were ordering the plane tickets last night when I suddenly realized that it was next week.

*that word was used solely for Karyn…who to this day mocks me for a short story I wrote in high school wherein I described a parking facility as having “ample parking”.

Hey, Karyn, I say “ample parking” too. no wonder karl and I have such good talk at lunch.

So, who is the featured gay blogger/beefcake model in the new Instinct?

Yes, I think you have a career–you’re good at what you do, articulate, speak in whole sentences, know how to spell and you write well. In today’s market, I see an assistant dean position in a couple of years.

After our big New years house party in New Hampshire I’m having so much trouble focusing today! Enjoy the new office and happy 2006.

Hey Karl – Just finally getting to your blog now. Thanks so much for all the kind words and it was great seeing you again despite you being under the weather. And, I love seeing the pics of my place and view on your blog. Very nice. (And yes, I am single!)

    Hiya Karl,
Actually, the cover guy for January just happened to be a blogger. We’re not actually featuring bloggers in each issue.

Thanks for checking out the issue, though! And good luck in your new ventures this year.

Oh, that’s cool that you checked with Instinct.
I love that magazine. I do miss Parker the old editor, but Robbie seems pretty cool.
Do you think he caught that repeat disease from your friend Karyn?
    🙂

WOW – the managing editor found my blog…neat (I sound like Kevin Costner).

And, David – I didn’t check with Instict…they found me! YAY

Oh…and I think they should focus on a blogger per month. One of my favorite things about this magazine is that they profile normal joe’s in this country versus celebrities…they do their blind date segment, their “how well do they know each other” couples segment, bachelor of the month, etc..

    Why not a blog?

Hey hey hey! Now see here David – quit suggesting I have some communicable blog commenting disease! 😉 And Karl, while I am flattered that you worked in a reference to my relentless harrassment of your superior, overachieving self — it breaks my heart to say this — I honest to God have no idea what you’re talking about! Ample parking?? All the crap I have on you and I pick “ample parking” to tease you about? Must have been a slow week… email me and refresh my badly deteriorating memory! xxx

I’d vote for you anyday, over the icky boy in Instinct. All airbrushed-like & cheesy. Bleah. Gimme some manly hair! ;-P

But what about those of us who don’t have hair in the first place? sigh

C’MON KARYN. I’VE STUCK UP FOR YOU IN THE PAST.
THAT WAS JUST SO EASILY HANDED TO US. ON A PLATTER.

    Platter schmatter.

    Harrumph.

    Ok fine, I’ll forgive you…. 😉
