Making an Impression

I’ve got this knack for making quite an impression on people. For example, shortly after meeting Matt, he brought me to his favorite restaurant, Taco Bell (it was my first time). We were happily eating what resembled, and tasted like, dog food wrapped in a beige piece of paper when I said something incredibly witty.

You may notice in my photo on the right that I have a bit of a gap between my two front teeth. Well, during my witty comment, a little piece of onion flew from between my teeth, across the table, and onto Matt’s forehead.

Hoping not to make a scene, I simply continued the conversation in the hope that Matt wouldn’t notice. Of cousre, as I’m talking, he began going cross-eyed trying to look up above his nose. Moments later, it slipped off and fell to the table.

…awkward pause….

Finally, we both burst out laughing so heartily that we both had dribbled a little bit. Anyway, for some strange reason he still wanted to get to know me better.

Although my situation last night with Jason wasn’t “that” bad, I do feel bad. We were originally supposed to meet last Thursday. But I had to email him at the last minute to cancel because my brother called and I had to rush to the hospital instead. Jason was a good sport and we opted to reschedule for Tuesday night.

Then on Monday I found out that I might have to do some estate stuff for Regina so there was a 50/50 chance I’d have to cancel again. He was cool with that. Tuesday came and I was happily able to confirm with Jason that we could get together that night! YAY!

Now, I’m not sure if it was the stress of all that’s going on right now with my niece and sister-in-law, or whether it was the funky tasting chicken I got at the Hark* (Harvard cafeteria), but by 4PM I started feeling sick. REAL sick. Between 4PM and 5PM I had to run to the bathroom 5 times. And when I say run, I mean that the pain and discomfort was so bad that I literally just made it to the bathroom each time.

However, Jason had left work early to come to Harvard Square and we never exchanged phone numbers. I had no way of reaching him to cancel. So, I popped some Immodium and headed to the square to meet him. Half way there, I had to run back to the office to go to the bathroom…again.

Anyway, I arrived at the John Harvard statue a few minutes late only to shake his hand and then apologize profusely that I thought I wanted to die and needed to go home to the comfort of my toilet. As we walked back to the subway, though, I felt awful (cuz he seemed so sweet…and really cute!).

So, I decided to stick it out and be a man and not let my digestive system control me. Instead of dinner, we headed to Au Bon Pain where we sat outside chatting (but not after an emergency trip to their bathroom….ewww.). All I had was a bottle of water (rehydration!)

We had some great conversation, but I feared I came off as some psycho as I was shaking my legs and crossing my arms the entire time as I held back the urges to run to the bathroom. But I really did have a great time and he’s such an interesting guy.

And then I wake up this morning at 11AM (I stayed home from work today because I still don’t feel quite right) and looked at his blog only to find that he actually thought I was sane! YAY

I can’t wait to get together again.

*Did anybody else have the chicken parmesan at the Hark yesterday and then feel sick afterwards?

LOL…Karl, if you were really that uncomfortable you could have said something, I would have understood! I figured the leg-shaking was just nerves, cuz I do that all the time. Thanks for staying around though, I really enjoyed your company. And for the record, you’re pretty cute too. 🙂

I wish I had known the story about you and Matt and the onion before this, because I will certainly be referring to it in my mind when I need a laugh for a long, long time…

Why the rush to the hospital – please don’t tell me something else has gone horribly wrong…

Such adventures are what legends are made of — as well as making people closer. Hope you’re feeling better.
