The Bitch is Back!

I’m back! I feel so loved that so many people emailed me about where my blog went. I guess people really do read this thing. The origin of my blog failure is a rather embarrassing story, actually.

I’ve been getting lots of spam in my comments lately. These people find old blog entries and instead of posting comments, post website links to their spam. It was driving me crazy because I get emails every time a comment is posted. And I’m such a freak that I get so excited when I get comments that I have to immediatley open up the email to see who wrote a comment. But lately I’ve been opening them up only to find spam. Lots and lots of spam (and we all know that a diet of too much spam isn’t healthy).

So, being the pseudo-efficient person that I am, I decided to try and block those spam-generating people from my blog. What I managed to do instead was to block EVERYBODY from accessing my blog…including myself! D’oh!

So, until I returned to work on Monday, I wasn’t able to even correct my own mistake. I had to enlist the services of the Berkman Center research program at Harvard (who sponsors this service) for assistance. Sigh.

I promise, dear readers, to never try and fix anything every again. Scouts honor.

As for what’s been going on these past few days, here’s a cecap: the plans of going to the Cape to give my brother, Paul, a break failed miserably. The doctors at the hospital encouraged my sister-in-law to go to the Cape, too. This pretty much eliminated any chance for Paul to rest. Since my sister-in-law had just had a stroke the week before, (and, sorry to say, has a history of selfishness and hypochondria) she was quite needy so most of the weekend consisted of her asking Paul to do stuff for her.

Fortunately, I was able to let Paul escape for a few hours on Saturday evening. We went mini-golfing at Pirate’s Cove and then to dinner at some Italian place. We both really enjoyed ourselves and Paul seemed to enjoy the escape from the wife and kids (which is an escape he deserves and dearly needs). Still, he needs more than a four-hour break. We think he may get that chance next week when his wife goes in for some surgery and Heather, the sick child, is in the hospital as well. That will just leave Paul with the two kids: 6 and 7 years old (and I’m hoping a babysitter can be lined up for at least one overnight). Fingers crossed.

Sounds like an innocent mistake to me, Karl.
I felt so shut out, rejected, dejected, left alone in the abyss.
Ok, maybe not that much but it was fun typing it. Sorry your plans didn’t work out quite the way you planned, but at least you were able to give him a “power” vacation.

I’m glad you were able to get things fixed!

I wonder if you want to keep the stuff about selfishness up public though… never know who might find your blog.

You’re a good man, Snarl. Doesn’t his family qualify for some kind of respite care? He should look into this; through his local Early Intervention Program or the state DMR or something. Make A Wish Foundation? How can I help? I’m sorry I’m not available for the sitter job, but what else can I do – networking etc.? Let me know.

PS: Scout’s honor my foot, you’re no scout. Wait. Maybe you were. I remember a photo of you in the little blue uniform w/ the yellow ascot / tie / bandana thingy… hm. Why isn’t THAT posted here? *snicker*

i wanna see the pic that karyn is talking about with you in your little uniform! but seriously, when is the internet going to implode? it was a noble effort to try and block the spam, but alas, they are pretty smart. as for the family stuff, i’m still keeping you and them in my thoughts.
