Big Bang Boom

I got home from work last night and immediately turned on the air-conditioning. After one of the coldest May’s on record, we just jumped right into summer once June began. It’s been in the upper 80s, hazy, hot and humid since I got back from Chicago (minus one gloriously cool day).

Later in the evening, after the white noise caused by the air-conditioning lulled me to sleep in my climate controlled environment, I was rudely awakened precisely at 2:10AM when the most intense boom of thunder jolted me* from the bed. Seriously, that  sole clap of thunder was unlike any I’d heard in years. As I laid there fully awake, I was anticipating some further pyrotechnics. I mean, how could something that strong not be followed by more?

Alas, all I could hear was heavy rain (even over the AC). It took be another 30 minutes to fall asleep (partially because I have trouble falling asleep after being woken up, but also because, like a little boy, I was hoping for more).

Anyway, today is graduation day at Harvard so the place is hopping with students and family. On the plus side, I get a free lunch out of it. I even wore my finest clothes today (not!) to impress the masses: sneakers, green cargo shorts and a $9 shirt from the Gap. Yep – mom would be proud.

*Matt always made fun of me because, like a dog, the second I hear a noise in my sleep I sit right up and start looking around.

    You’re SO the fashion victim!

MIT’s graduation was last Friday. I was REALLY good this year and didn’t hit the pastry tables that were set up all over campus.

You know? I can totally see that. Even though, in the … ah… let’s see… hm. Ok, in the disturbing number of years we have known each other, even having spent the night once or twice, I’ve never witnessed it, but I can totally see it. That is pretty funny. Aroo?
