Romance is Alive and Well in Somerville

At least it seemed that way Friday night. Nothing spectacular happened, but we ended up having a nice little quiet night at home, which is a rare thing for us on a weekend. Despite my doctor’s instructions to reduce carbs and improve cholesterol, Randy made me a delicious beef wrapped in bacon on the grill.

Then we just spread out on the sofa and caught up with the series, True Blood…our latest addiction.

On Saturday, we did a bit of shopping before going for a bike ride (one of our first chances this spring with all of the rain and gloom we’ve been having). That night, we got together with our friends, Chris and Zach, to play board games.

We first played a game Deano got me for my birthday that I can best describe as being a combination of Scrabble and Monopoly. We followed that up with an old 1970’s-era game that Randy played in his childhood and brought back up after one of his visits with family.

It’s called “Gambler” and is for ages 10 and up. But considering the whole game is based on poker, horse racing, and betting, this game would never get made today. Oh, and it’s even got a fabulously ghetto lottery component where you buy lottery tickets. If somebody lands on the lottery square on the board, a maracas shaped dice container gets shaken and if two of your numbers come up, you win the lottery! If you run out of money, you can even take out an IOU from the casino!

Speaking of lotteries, my parents got me a seasons ticket for my birthday and within a week I won $10 (the lottery commision mailed me a check). WOO HOO!

Finally, on Saturday we went to the gym and saw “The Hangover” at the Somerville Theatre. A nice was to close off a good weekend.

Heya Karl! Also a “True Blood” addict here…what’s not to love about sexy vampires?! Thought the little gayish bit between Eric (grr!) and Bill (also damn sexy…but I assume Eric they WILL make out to be fairly gay…) last night was great…

    How was “The Hangover”?

    Best to you & Randy!
