Oh What A Tangled Web We Weave

Last winter, when I was newly single, I befriended this guy, Vito. I thought we had really hit it off and we hung out often and even went to New York City together to visit my good friend, Chris. Life was going great – I had a new friend.

However, once I met Rich and started dating him I found out Vito was actually hoping for more than just friendship with me. It only complicated matters that he worked at the same place as Rich (at a college…they didn’t know each other except by sight, though).

Well, Vito and I started hanging out less, but remained friends. Then a month or so later I got an instant message from this guy named Mike. He told me that he was friends with Vito and that they were looking through Vito’s Friendster contacts one night and he saw my photos/profile and thought I was cute so he decided to contact me.

Flattered, we started chatting on-line and he told me he found me attractive and would love to meet and date.

I emailed Vito to tell him about his friend contacting me…only for Vito to say that he and Mike were dating each other! Well, they’d only been out a few times, but when I chatted with Vito, he had no clue Mike had actually memorized my Friendster profile name and contacted me. Needless to say, Vito and Mike’s relationship ended pretty fast after that.

UGH. So Vito and I started hanging out even less and basically stopped hanging out altogether. I never dated Mike, but did meet him once and chatted with him periodically AS FRIENDS (I was dating Rich at the time). Then we lost contact completely in late winter/early spring.

Now, nearly a year later, Mike has contacted me again. I’d forgotten all about that complicated scenario last winter….but it all came back to me pretty damn quickly.

HMMM – I’m not sure what the reason was for this blog posting. I guess I just felt the need to vent about it. And I get to vent again tonight at therapy. But after therapy, Jason is coming over for our first Rummy match of 2006.

You’ve been warned – tomorow’s posting will likely be cranky (I lost) or joyful (I won). I’m hoping for the latter.

And here…a little funny my friend, Mark, sent me:

Ahhh, therapy… i miss therapy…sadly, i’ve nobody to watch les enfants, so rather than take them along and traumatize them, I’m saving my angst for a rainy breakdown, I mean day. 🙂

Yeah, this Mike character? Sorry, did you say he was in High School? WTF?

    Run far, run fast.

    Just MHO.

Ok, but there was a Mike you actually were (or are) dating recently (you were headed there when we ran into each other at the North Station T stop–is he the same as the Mike who was dating Vito while trying to date you? Yes, this web is very tangled.

Ugh, see, this is why I hate internet dating. Why can’t people just be honest?! That freaking frosts my cookies…

the former mike sounds like a slippery character, either that or just really shortsighted…what kind of *YUCK* would try to date two friends at once, perhaps hide the fact that he’s trying to get both of you in bed at separate times, and feel like they could get away with it? a SLEEZE. keep away keep away!
