…and so it continues

I am learning so much this year…and I’ve not even taken any classes yet! Nope, I’m not learning anything academic, I’m learning about life. Or actually, death.

I’ve blogged about the complicated cycle of managing the estate of a deceased person (complicated further by not being a family member and also having to manage a separate trust). But last night I got home to find a letter from the City of Cambridge indicating that Regina’s marriage license was completed incorrectly and additional information is needed to make it valid. Great.

So I called this morning and apparently the person officiating the wedding didn’t complete the license according to instructions. She didn’t list where the wedding took place, what her title was (Justice of the Peace, clergy, etc…). She didn’t even date the damn thing properly!

This is the same person (the clergy) who botched the memorial service and who drove me crazy the first month after Regina had passed away. I was hoping that my contact with her was finally over. But now I have to track her down to make the marriage valid. UGH!

…and so it continues.

I can’t believe that! Good grief! I guess my main reaction is, thank goodness Regina didn’t have to hear about this while she was alive, because I think knowing she was finally legally married to W was one of the things to give her peace towards the end. If anything, anything from this gets in the way of Regina’s wishes for what should happen to W (inheritance-wise, etc.) after her death, I’m gonna be soooo pissed off.

That is horrible! Getting married meant so much to her. Still, in the eyes of the Creator and those, like you, who loved her — she was married no matter the certificate.

Call this lazy person and give her hell!

I think this has been a big learning curve year for both of us.

Yup. Death: The New Beaurocratic Nightmare.

You’re a good friend to honor her wishes so carefully. A lot of people would be like, yeah, well, that’s unfortunate. Buh bye. And just let it go…

Um, not that that’s what I’m suggesting you do. After I posted it I realized it might have sounded that way, but that’s not what I meant. Just giving you props. 🙂
