The Wimp
I’m so pathetic. I woke up yesterday morning with a slight sore throat. But by mid-morning, my body ached so bad that I could barely move. I ended up leaving work and going home around 1PM.
As the afternoon went on, the aching feeling was so strong that even sitting was painful. I mean, when I laid down on the sofa, my back hurt because of the pressure from the soft cushion. Even my fingers ached when I tried grabbing a glass of water.
In total, I laid on the sofa (mostly asleep) from 2PM until 10:30PM. Then I went to bed and stayed there until 10:30AM (12 hours – a lot for me). Since then, I’ve gone back to the sofa and rested some more. Matt thinks I have strep so I’ve called my doctor and am going tomorrow at 12:20PM.
But it all just makes me feel like a wimp. I mean, I’m not vomitting (in fact, I’m not even nauseous). And when I consider what my niece and Regina are going through, I feel guilty for bitching about my petty sypmtoms.
To make matters worse, there is nothing on television today because ALL local networks are only airing the New England Patriot’s Victory Parade…commercial free, no less! UGH

As someone who just saw the damn parade live (I figured what the heck, I just have to wander out of my building) – I can’t imagine how boring it is on TV. Standing there was fairly boring (okay, Tom Brady is cute in person, but that’s about it) and they basically just zipped on by.
Now it’s time to deal with the idiots going home on the train this afternoon.
Matt Light pushes a couple of my buttons but I wouldn’t turn out for the parade or watch it on TV (actually I was teaching during it).
Take care of the cold or whatever it is, Karl–there are things going around that can settle in for a long time and be really unpleasant. Don’t beat yourself up about giving yourself some downtime.
dear superman,
sometimes you have to help yourself before you can turn around and help other people in need.

Karl,
If what you have is anything like what my father and a few of my friends have, I’m terribly sorry. It took my dad most of a week to get over it. I’m crossing my fingers that I don’t get sick.
Rest up and feel better!

Sick and you didn’t call your favorite pharmacist?
Although, I’m sure pressing the keys on the phone would have hurt your hand…….
