The Weekend Already

I just realized that it’s Friday (and payday). YAY. This week has flown by. I suppose the Monday holiday helped…but I’ve noticed that this whole fall has been speeding on by for me. I’m already a month into my two classes (which are taking up a good chunk of my free time) and the situation with me niece is constantly evolving. I found out yesterday that she’s going in for surgery a week from Monday.

They wanted to do it today – but because she has had such mixed recoveries from previous surgeries (at two years old she’s had at least 5 or 6 so far) they postponed it to next Monday so that the doctors will be on hand to observe her and treat her (if necessary) the days after the operation. The surgery is to correct a hernia that is causing her to have constant reflux. Which in itself is sad because she can’t eat solid food. My brother summarized it this way last night: “her stomach is completely useless”. The one thing my brother and his wife used to let her have…crushed ice…she can’t keep down anymore…and that’s just water!. Nothing liquid or solid can go into her mouth – I can’t imagine not having the simple luxury of taking a sip of water or even tasting juice.

So, even though nourishment is being pumped into her system through tubes that were surgically inserted into her skin, she still has troubles keeping those liquids in. To complicate matters, one of the tubes (called a Nissen line? NISN? Nissin?) that was implanted during her last surgery needs to be replaced.

On the plus side, my niece is being released from the hospital today so that the whole family (Mom, dad, 3 kids) can be together until the surgery takes place. But she’ll be back in a week for the operation.

On a lighter note, I got a perfect score on my Financial Planning quiz this week (thanks to an extra credit question I got right). WOO HOO! And Matt saved a man’s life yesterday (see his blog). I guess my life isn’t as boring as I thought it was in my blog posting from Tuesday.

At least you got Monday off…?The great state of Oklahoma decided a few years ago that it was too much to ask to have both MLK day and Columbus day off from work, so MLK is a state holiday but Colombus day is just a bank holiday…do I’ve been here allllllll week.
