Fiber to the People

Slashdot carried this story and I was very curious to read it. My thoughts are that if you want more awareness on putting REAL broadband to people in the states the government right now is not the place to look. Maybe in 5-10 years they’ll see this as a perception problem. But for now I […]

One of DARPA Grand Challenge folk contestants graduated from RPI

Was just looking for more information on Mini ITX boards and saw a note about one of the contestants (Team LoGHIQ) accepted into the DARPA Grand Challenge. I poked a little more look to see what they had about the technology they were using when I noticed that the main contact person for the team […]

3d Visualizations of the London Tube

Very cool 3d visualizations of the London Tube (that’s the subway for those not familiar with the Tube terminology). Enjoy! Kudos to Black Belt Jones

The Rube Goldberg Official Site

Now that’s cool! I need to explore this site more in depth

That’s one hot Graphic Card

Gotta love it. Want a hot graphics card? Try the Flame Buffer!

Akihabara’s Linux Cafe

When I was in Akihabara a month or so back I found The Linux Cafe. No I’m not joking! I bet if you google for it you might be able to find it. But here’s some pics showing proof:

The Flying Drive

I’ve seen USB flash drives in the U.S. and they’re okay. But in Japan you can get lots of cool designed ones. There is one for Gundam fans (picture pending), probably even for for Hello Kitty. However I found this one pretty neat:

Walmart behind the scenes

Awhile back I posted about Can Wal-mart change Japanese retail. Seems BoingBoing found a story on Fast Company about how NOT dealing with Wal-mart in the U.S. is death for manufacturers. Here are some excerpts from the article: Wal-Mart wields its power for just one purpose: to bring the lowest possible prices to its customers. […]

Y2k Bug

Phoby the wonder slide show app for OS X

Stumbled across this one reading the Squeak Japanese Mailing List and checking out YFB’s Blog What is it you ask? A slide show application that supports transparency and can always stay in front so you can have a transculent slide show going on while doing other stuff. Talk about an utterly gratuitous way to use […]

Being there, still doing that

Try under the Seat?

James Robertson’s Blog mentions how he hates flying foreign airlines because they don’t have a power adapter. Now, I understand the geek fascination with using all your electronic gadgets on the plane… however I tend not to most of the time although I guess if I had a programming project I might get lost in […]

GPS Tagged JPEGs

BoingBoing points to GPS Tagged JPEGs. All I can say is… cool! Although people better start taking more care when taking pictures and posting them if they don’t want to be located.

Survey says One Hit Wonder

According to a survey by Perseus… 66% of the blogs they sampled were abandoned after a short time. Well, can’t blame them. A blog is just another thing to take care of. At least it’s not as useless as a tamagotchi (I could be wrong though).

Bad UI design

This was just too amusing….
