What a hoot!

You are probably sitting at your desk while reading this so try this one out!

Pick up your right foot and start making circles in a clockwise motion. Now take your right hand and write the number 6 in the air. Your right foot went counter clockwise, huh?

Town government and the media suck and stuff

My apologies in advance if this title offends anyone but read on and I’ll explain.

In the first four days that our house was listed, we had six showings. That’s really good, especially if you consider that someone Brian works with knows someone that had their house on for five weeks and had only one showing. Things since have slowed down, but that’s only to be expected.

Now, my gripe with town government and the media. Last week, my town voted down an override. It appears that the citizens overwhelmingly believe that we are giving the government enough money and that they need to better manage it. Well, one of these selectman must have been upset because they “lost” and they leaked to the media that all sports would be cut from the town. Come on! Just one more scare tactic that hasn’t worked/happened in the past and is not likely to work/happen in the future.

This morning, it only got better. On the radio on the way in to work, I heard that the town selectman are considering implementing a $160/year/household trash fee which might make it possible to continue school sports. I’ve got news for you. I’ve been paying a $160 trash fee for at least the last year. A trash fee that the voters voted down because they believe that we are giving the government enough money and that they need to better manage it. The selectmen, however, overrode that vote and implemented it anyway.

That selectman that talked to the media, in my opinion, is a fool. Why would you leak something like that to the media when it hasn’t even been brought to the table? What does that say about “your” town? That’s the way to attract new residents/businesses to your town therefore increasing income for the town. Dope.

Media folks just suck. There really should be some accountability on these folks. If you’re going to publish/announce a story, at least get the facts straight first.

Ahhhh…. I feel better. Thank you.

(Brief update on house searching. I’ve learned that it takes going out there and looking at houses to make you appreciate how good you really have it. Though we’ve seen the one house that we really like, nothing else has been appealing to me because hubby has made my house so beautiful over the years! Oh, what to do? What to do?)

Latest…

We had another showing on Saturday.  When we went back to the house thinking they’d be done, we think they were actually across the street talking to the neighbors.  That seemed like a good thing but we never heard from our realtor so I guess not.  Oh, well.

I must tell folks that if this whole thing does not work out and we don’t sell our house, there will be absolutely no reason to feel bad.  Saturday night, they came and put the “For Sale” sign in front of our house.  I cried.  Yes, cried.  I do love my house.  It’s a wonderful house.  We’re only looking to see what might happen.  As I said in my last post, if it’s meant to be it will happen and, if not, it won’t.  Either will be just fine with me.

Well, it’s Monday.  This is the last week before fiscal year end.  I have no idea what I’m doing so I guess the best thing to do is to get to work.

I’m not tired anymore…

Nope. I’m well over that. I am e-x-h-a-u-s-t-e-d.

Holy cow! It was only six years ago that I last did this house thing – could I really have aged that much in s-i-x years??? This house stuff is whippin’ my butt!

We’ve been quite fortunate, actually. The house has been on the market for two days now and we’ve already had 4 showings. Showings are good but they are not offers and what we want is an offer. Mind you, there are a ton of houses on the market right now so who knows what’s going to happen. I keep telling myself that if it’s meant to be, it will happen and if it’s not, it won’t and I truly do believe that.

It doesn’t mean it’s easy, though. A woman looked at the house yesterday and she didn’t like it. Our realtor always gives us the feedback from lookers so that we can make minor adjustments accordingly. Her comments upset hubby. Hubby is very proud of our house, as he should be. It took some talking to make him realize that this woman will likely never find a home as her comments were quite silly. “The house is dark.” Huh? Did you remove your sunglasses before entering? “The kitchen is old.” Uhm. Yup. If you want, we’ll update it and add another $15k to the price of the house. Clearly, she wants the perfect house and all I can say is get yourself back to work and save some more money because you’re in the wrong price bracket for perfection.

Another man liked the house and wanted to come back with his wife but we haven’t heard anything further. The third person we didn’t hear from and the last showing was only at 6:15 last night so no word on that one yet.

One house that we saw has been on the market for 310 days. That’s almost a year. I don’t think so. I love my house. I don’t have to leave. I will be perfectly happy if it doesn’t sell and I have to stay. I would not put myself through this for 310 days. 90 will be more than enough, thank you.

Have I mentioned that I’m exhausted?

Tired. Very.

Yes. I am.

I completely forgot how mentally exhausting trying to sell and buy a home are. After nearly 20 years of marriage, you could say that our lives have become pretty darned routine and that routine has been messed up over the past week and a half and in a big way!

Our house is now officially on the market (and I’d post the picture here, if I’da figured out how to do that on the new blog!) so finger, toes and eyes are crossed!

Meantime, should anyone walk by my desk and hear snoring, please do slap me offside the head! 🙂

Busy

We had a very busy weekend as things are really moving quickly as far as the possible move.  I guess at this point, I have to stop saying possible.  We met with the realtor again on Friday to discuss our house, etc.  Saturday, we spent the afternoon driving around looking at houses.  Yesterday, the realtor brought us to see a few and we found one that we really like.

Tonight, we’ll meet again to sign the papers to officially put our house on the market.  We’re hoping that we get some activity quickly because we would like to make an offer on the house we saw yesterday.

Are we crazy, or what?

Back again!

Gotta be quick…  was having trouble with my username/password but am back on track now!

I was on vacation last week and it was absolutely wonderful!  The weather was absolutely gorgeous and now I’m sitting at my desk looking out the window at the pouring rain and I am being very thankful that we took last week and not this!

I am very excited yet also quite nervous about this evening.  We are considering making one more move and we have a realtor coming to the house to give us an appraisal.  More on that later…

Anyway, I’m in serious catch up mode right now but will update again ASAP. If I haven’t stopped by your blogs just yet, I will soon!
