2004/08/26 Proposed Agenda

2

Proposed agenda:

  • Recap of the blog meetup last week
  • Lisa’s interest in getting political candidates blogging
    • (Note: the link goes to a Yahoo! Group message that may require a login.)
  • Update on the blog server
    • Is it possible to get at least one of the server administrators to come to a future meeting?
      • (Note: the link goes to a Yahoo! Group message that may require a login.)
      • Wendy has a pretty decent update; if after that we still want a sysadmin to come, we can work on that
  • Harvard blogs’ aggregators should now be able to handle Atom feeds
  • Locking the managing editor out of the blog
  • Frassle
  • Luring Jay McCarthy back to the meetings
    • “I’ve heard he’s a vegan. Do you think if we tied a carrot to a stick, that would work?”
    • “He’s much too smart to fall for something that silly. Think harder.”
  • Eat

    • ChangSho
    • Trident with the meetup last week
    • Smile Thai week before that

Notes:

Construction note: There might still be a fence around Harkness Commons preventing access to the Berkman Center via the Harvard Law School yard. It may be possible to cut through Pound Hall to get to a parking lot near the Berkman Center. For those coming from Harvard Square, it might be easier to travel along Massachusetts Avenue to the Berkman Center. map

Like past and future agendas, if you have an item you’d like on the agenda, comment, get blogging privileges from Jay , or contact him or the other j.

I strongly object to j’s abundantly false claim in her notes for 08/12 [which curiously seems immune to accepting further comments], that I said very insulting things about Shimon. I said that the was hard for a beginning blogger like me to understand. This is not about Shimon, nor is it insulting at all and a fortiori not “very insulting”. j has contributed ideas to the design of Frassle and seems to feel a pride of ownership in it. I would be concerned if Shimon and/or Josh who actually wrote the thing had expressed some picque at this or similar remarks I have made at previous meetings. j seems to feel more possessive than they with less reason.

The exchange continued in a similar vein for a few minutes mostly it was about the complexity of the interface. Shimon finally in a NOT UNgentlemanly way essentially rejected my remark. I said that he only felt that way because he, “has an excess of short term memory and therefore doesn’t understand they way the rest of humanity works.” Anyone who doesn’t recognize that as an affectionate jibe from an old [and former] software engineer to a young one is wrong. Such a person is a humorless drudge with an excess of short term memory. Now that’s an insult. 🙂
