Notes:
- ABCD WWW working group meeting, Oct. 13, 3:30-5pm
- Bill Ives of Portals and KM on knowledge management and blogging and that sort of thing
- Personal knowledge management and such
- found two Indian blogs, found them interesting, wrote about them
- one which he talked about a bit is Dina Mehta
- the other is Gautam Ghosh
- book reviews and blogging–he does book reviews on his blogs and received a book from a publisher once as a result
- communication among bloggers is important, fosters professional relationships
- he can track some communication through his blog posts; they’re searchable that way
- he writes in Word first–it gives him independent storage in case his blog software ever goes down or disappears
- allows synthesis and creativity
- He blogs restaurant reviews quite a bit because he doesn’t necessarily trust the reviews/reviewers. He appreciates reviews from friends, people he knows because he knows their tastes, trusts their opinions.
- he is soliciting reviews
- he does 5-6 at a time, but will take more if he can break them into series
- looks for cities all over the world
- did Zurich as a total coincidence to OSCOM, not because he knew people would be going there for the conference
- he does business on the weekdays, music and food on the weekends
- he didn’t want to have multiple blogs, so he combined the topics
- he thinks it helps with Google rankings and mentioned people searching for slow cooked ribs will find his site
- Wendy talked about the five blogs she works on, focusing on two
- Rebecca also talked about her two blogs and TypePad
- uses Site Meter for stats
- Bill started blogging in May
- He asks: do journalists who blog stay on topic more because they’re trained professionally to do so?
- Garrett, Kris, Christina, and j doing a dry run of their ASIST presentation?
- Yes. Pick a date.
- Changing the IRC channel to #berkmanbloggroup
- Yes. Let’s change the channel beginning next week.
- The Harvard University Gazette Calendar published a notice for our group! Yea!
