Illegal Art

Touring exhibit tests the limits of copyright
laws that block artists from using corporate images

Artists by nature challenge conventions and make us think about what we
are seeing or hearing. Now an exhibit called ”Illegal Art: Freedom of
Expression in the Corporate Age,” from the Museum
of Modern Art in San Francisco is moving around the country, attracting
controversy wherever it goes.

Think Barbie in a Blender, the Starbucks logo, but says ”Consumer Whore,”
Bert, from ”Sesame Street,” in a noose, Pez candy dispensers topped
with the heads of dead rap star, pillows shaped like Zoloft, Prozac and
Thorazine tablets, etc. No lawsuits yet, but organizers are hopeful….
