Reviews from all kinds of fakers

Eagle-eyed readers have been sending in fake reviews from all over… about books, coffee makers, flash videos and more. The Amazon book reviews I knew about; the Amazon stores and other reviews don’t surprise me too much. At least it’s a bit harder to spam Amazon with fifty reviews, than it is to do the same on Yahoo… if you find some particularly jucy fake reviews, particularly in print, let me know.

What about fake reviews for Web sites, like these for the Harvard Homepage?

Would you count those women’s magazine that are almost entirely written by corporate press release? Marie Claire is a classic “culprit”, and here’s a fine example:,,434727_598281-7,00.html
(“The 10 Products You Didn’t Know You Needed, 6: Lancome Matte Finish Shine-Control Blotting Sheets”)

It’s not that the product is bad, but any halfway impartial editor would also note that the product is technically identical to a Johnson & Johnson product at 1/3 the price (and half that if you buy greymarket from Hong Kong via eBay).
