Human rights and human freedom
Shelley Powers has a beautiful essay that argues the case for gay marriage as civil right: For Those Who Inhabit the Empty Spaces of the Coloring Book. I’ve written in favour of gay marriage before, glibly here and with a bit more detail here, but for a really in-depth compassionate argument in favour of what is happening in San Francisco, with many links to other cogent articles, read the BurningBird.
The developments in San Francisco provide some cheer in the face of a corporatism that threatens our personal freedoms on a global scale.
Having used the c-word, can I also add that I’m depressed and appalled at the spectacle of Ralph Nader running for president? I think I’ll start calling him Dimitri…
