“A future with AI” is a study of the views of young people around the world on Artificial Intelligence.
WHO GETS TO DECIDE ON THE FUTURE OF AI?
Artificial Intelligence is being adopted rapidly and eagerly everywhere, but not all its uses are equally welcome. It is high time that we become more intentional about what AI will be used for (and what not). But who gets to decide? We think that young people should have a say in what this future looks like!
The goal of this project is to contribute towards a vision of a future where human wellbeing and happiness take center stage. Therefore, we seek to understand the perceptions, risks, hopes and opportunities youth sees regarding AI. Some of these may be universally shared while others more culturally specific, but all are essential if we hope to arrive at a degree of common understanding and promote solidarity and collaboration globally.

The study is composed of two parts:
• a survey that asks participants about the current role of AI in their lives and their hopes and fears for the future, and
• an “imagination challenge” in which youth are asked to describe their vision for an ideal future with AI, guided by three broad topics.
OUTCOMES
The results of the survey and the imagination challenge will be analyzed and summarized in a report, to be published in the Spring of 2022 on the United Nations website and other channels. An online seminar will be held to discuss the results in which six participants from different age groups will be selected to present their vision. The seminar will help us define actions we can take towards a positive AI future.
