WiiMotion Plus

When Nintendo announced the Wii, we all thought, “pretty system, terrible name.” But due to the idiocy and law-suit loving American public, the Wiimote soon got a nice, gigantic, rubber covering to keep people from continuing to be a danger to themselves.

backing up Facebook

Facebook logo

As a platform developer for Facebook (as well as an app developer) its important that I back up all of the source code that I write/modify/etc.

Today, when I was putting all of this week’s files onto my trusty 1TB Maxtor, I ran out of space. I was confused. Facebook, being simply a huge PHP program shouldn’t have clogged up my entire drive. I opened up the most current build and took a look.

The culprit, a self replicating Facebook logo. Well done Facebook, you think that you’re so cool that your logos reproduce in order to be seen even more. But what am I to complain? Facebook is cool.

Super Monkey Ball iPhone

I never thought I would purchase an app from iTunes, let alone the AppStore, but alas, I gave in and bought Sega’s 5th-tillioth incarnation of Super Monkey Ball, this time for the iPhone. (I know, I know… a simple SSH hack and I could have had the game for free, but I don’t regret this purchase a bit. And it was only 10 dollars) I am painfully and utterly addicted to Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone.

Gmail has failed

Gmail failed me today. Yes, it really did. The champion of storage, boasting (currently) 6981.259374 megabytes of webmail space died when I received my 34656th email this afternoon. Let us mourn my inbox. “Never need to delete another message”? I think not.

iPhone 3Gs are cracking up

iPhone 3G with crack

The iPhone 3G is a big deal for me. I was getting prepped to switch over from Verizon to Cingular just for the new, white-backed 16GB model. However, news of the devices cracking are popping up everywhere. Not a good sign.

Which brings up my primary caveat with the iPhone 3G: why replace the classic metal backing for plastic? Sure, the plastic is high density, less likely to dent than the previous model, but along with plastic comes a whole other set of problems–with cracking being a significant one. Certainly, the original iPhone made a stride forward, replacing the previous high-scratchable chrome backing for a brushed aluminum. So why take a step backwards?

moop. T-Shirt Front

The popularity of the Alan Hshieh-coined word “moop” (in its current meaning of course) has been honoured with a T-Shirt design created by the talented Brenda Ong of the Asian-Central.com staff. Awesome? Definitely. The link below will take you to the ordering site. All proceeds will go to supporting the development of the grassroots social networking site, Asian-Central.com, one of the greatest up-n-comers if I may say so myself. Of course, I’m also a staff member.

Samsung NV4 Silver
I got my new camera today, the Samsung NV4, a nice upgrade to my sadly broken NV3. The form factor is about the same. Decent size, decent width. The GUI is definitely pumped up a bit, and I got a nice additional megapixel out of the upgrade. Gone are the two “knob” speakers that were present on the NV3, which seemed to confuse everyone who thought the speakers were buttons. Instead one speaker remains, and the other got switched out for the mode selection dial. (more…)

I whipped up a video talking about my “top-secret” work It’s pretty awesome stuff despite the slightly lame industrial standard presentation. But yes, it all does play a part in my grand scheme in curing cancer. Hit the jump for the embedded video: (more…)
