Frye Halloran Symposium 2005

Thursday, July 21st, 2005

This year’s Frye-Halloran Symposium will be held on November 17 and 18, 2005.

We are organizing our 5th annual Carolyn Frye Halloran Seminar on Neuro-Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital to be held on November 17th and 18th 2005 in the historic Ether Dome.  This annual symposium focuses on topics relevant to neuro-oncology including etiology, diagnosis, and therapeutics of CNS tumors.   The focus of this years symposium is STEM CELLS and BRAIN TUMORS.  In this symposium,  we will explore the relationship between stem cells and tumors of glial or lymphoma origin in the brain.  As with prior symposia, an aim will be the establishment of collaborative investigations and early phase human trial designs.  Over one and one-half days we will review:  1) The role of STEM cells in the normal development of the brain with special reference to the development of CNS tumors  2)  The role of CD133+ cells in the pathogenesis of malignant brain tumors and 3)  Potential therapeutic and imaging strategies involving neural precursor cells and stem cells as well as effects of treatment on normal versus tumor stem cells.

An outstanding speaker panel is being assembled to address these issues.   Please contact Mary Piggott  mpiggot@partners.org for symposium details.   Phone: 617-726-8581
