A More Just Educational System in Germany – and at the Technical University of Munich? – 9
“ZEIT: That’s an experiment with uncertain results.
“Lenzen: It’s been quite successful elsewhere, in the Netherlands for example.
“ZEIT: But surely it would work if the schools were still completely controlled by the state.
“Lenzen: Of course, but they would have to be run like something in the private sector. Good work has to be rewarded and bad work punished – that’s what it’s all about. Changes are possible only when resources and a good reputation can either be withheld or bestowed. That can happen, though, only when there’s someone who can be held responsible for either success or failure.”

Mehr Gerechtigkeit im Bildungswesen – und an der Technische Universität München? – 9
„ZEIT: Ein Experiment mit ungewissem Ausgang.
Lenzen: In den Niederlanden zum Beispiel wird das mit Erfolg praktiziert.
ZEIT: Das ginge doch sicherlich auch mit staatlichen Schulen.
Lenzen: Klar, aber sie sollten wie Privatbetriebe geführt werden. Gute Arbeit muss belohnt werden, schlechte bestraft, darum geht es. Veränderungen sind nur möglich durch den Entzug oder die Vergabe von Ressourcen und Reputation. Das geht aber nur, wenn es jemanden gibt, der für den Erfolg oder Misserfolg einer Sache verantwortlich ist.“
