The Technical University of Munich* – “One-Third of the People Don’t Believe in Democracy Any More” – 1
“Sullenness toward politics” and a “feeling of exhaustion with elections” are phrases that German politicians and commentators commonly use when describing the attitude of many German voters. The real situation is far worse than that, however. One third of Germans have lost all confidence in democracy as a political system. In the former East Germany, fifty percent of the population is “tired of democracy.”

Die Technische Universität München* – „Jeder Dritte glaubt nicht mehr an die Demokratie“ – 1
Politikverdrossenheit und Wahlmüdigkeit sind vertraute Stichwörter – aber die Lage ist weitaus dramatischer: Ein Drittel der Deutschen hat das Vertrauen in die Demokratie als politisches System verloren. Im Osten ist gar jeder Zweite demokratiemüde.
