A More Just Educational System in Germany – and at the Technical University of Munich? – 1
“A conversation with Dieter Lenzen, President of the Freie Universitaet Berlin:
“DIE ZEIT: In your recent report, you write that there is a need for a more just system of education in Germany. Actually, that’s not a very original statement. Since the Pisa Study of 2001 we’ve known that our educational system is extremely unjust. Germany is practically the only country where achievement in school is so closely related to the social standing of the student’s family.
“Dieter Lenzen: But for many of us, it isn’t clear that those individuals who are carrying out the necessary reform of our system of education really believe that justice is a significant element in that reform. Above all, some people have to be convinced of the need to sacrifice a portion of their freedom for the sake of justice in the system.”

Mehr Gerechtigkeit im Bildungswesen – und an der Technische Universität München? – 1
„Ein Gespräch mit Dieter Lenzen, Präsident der FU Berlin:
DIE ZEIT: Sie fordern in Ihrem Gutachten mehr Bildungsgerechtigkeit. Originell ist das nicht. Dass unser Bildungssystem extrem ungerecht ist, hat spätestens die Pisa-Studie 2001 gezeigt: In kaum einem anderen Land ist die Schulleistung so eng an die soziale Herkunft gekoppelt wie in Deutschland.
Dieter Lenzen: Vielen ist aber nicht klar, dass Gerechtigkeit das Megathema einer nötigen Bildungsreform ist. Vor allem müssen diejenigen überzeugt werden, die glauben, ein Stück ihrer Freiheit für die Gerechtigkeit opfern zu müssen.”
