Too Good To Be True

by Douglas Sylva

… One can quickly discern the contempt
the UN feels towards the Philippines by reading the only two articles
on the Philippines that UNFPA has posted on its website. One article
describes the Philippines as a “demographic nightmare . . . where even
the Muslim clergy are more liberal on family planning than the
Catholics, led by the aptly named Cardinal Sin, Archbishop of Manila.”

“What went wrong? The Catholic Church
for one thing. From the pulpits and the nation’s tabloid press, church
leaders inveigh against contraceptives.”

Of course, nothing went wrong. The
Philippines’ success against AIDS should be a model for the rest of the
world. But the UN experts, blinded as they are by ideology, simply
cannot fathom how this could be…

One Response to “Too Good To Be True”

The article states that”A UNAIDS expert said that, “It’s quite perplexing . . . We’ve been talking about it a lot and frankly, we don’t know why it’s low.” A UNFPA official said, “It’s a real fact that we don’t understand really why AIDS infection is so low here in the Philippines.” As always, the UN is out of touch with the reality of some cultures, and do not “get” that moral values of self-control and chastity can work… Sad thing, but nothing new, the UN has been out of touch with these issues since the famous/infamous Cairo Population conference, and before… In every front, not only in issues of reproductive health, the UN is not a guide to development nor an apt instrument, so why bother listening to its doom forecasts in population?
