The Technical University of Munich* – “Dubious Doctorates and Professors in Disrepute” – 20
Ph.D. counselling service employee: If somebody comes in who’s only graduated from secondary school, we offer the Costa Rican detour. That means he writes a short paper, around thirty pages. The university in Costa Rica gets 3,000 euros (4,000 US dollars) and sends us an M.A. diploma. With that we go to some university like the one in Brünn (i.e., Brno, in the Czech Republic) or on Cyprus, and our customer is accepted there as a Ph.D. student.

O-Ton Mitarbeiter Promotionsberatung: Wenn einer kommt, der nur Abitur hat, dem bieten wir den Umweg über Costa Rica an. Der Kunde schreibt eine kleine Arbeit, so 30 Seiten. Die Uni in Costa Rica bekommt 3000 Euro und schickt dafür eine Master-Urkunde. Mit der geht man dann an Unis wie Brünn oder Zypern und die nehmen die Leute dann als Doktoranden auf.
