The Technical University of Munich* – “Old Secret Police Agents Never Die, Sometimes They Just Go into Politics” – 3
(NOTE: This report illustrates just how long and persistent German institutional memory can be, and who can embody it, even in cases where there may not be a direct link with a German university like the Technical University of Munich.)
The people of Schoenberg gave Heinze 72 percent of the vote in the recent mayoral election, but he has a problem. When the German Democratic Republic still existed, Heinze, under the cover name “Richard,” worked as an “unofficial colleague,” i.e., an informer, for the Stasi, the East German secret police. That was in addition to his official post as local commander of the border police. (Note: these “Grenztruppen” were responsible for preventing anyone from fleeing the socialist paradise and crossing into West Germany.) For Heinze, his past activities present no difficulty. He is quite willing to show proof of his earlier work as an informer, openly, for our cameras.

Die Technische Universität München* – „Stasi-Agenten sterben nie, manchmal werden sie Politiker“ – 3
Gerade haben sie ihn mit 72 Prozent wieder gewählt. Doch das alte und neue Stadtoberhaupt hat einen Makel: Er hat als Inoffizieller Mitarbeiter mit dem Decknamen “Richard” für die Staatssicherheit gearbeitet. Außerdem war er Kommandeur bei den Grenztruppen. Mit seiner Vergangenheit hat er kein Problem. Unverhohlen zeigt er die Nachweise seiner Spitzeltätigkeit in die Kamera.
