The Technical University of Munich* – “In Germany, Old Secret Police Agents Never Die, They Just Change Uniforms” – 16
(NOTE: This report illustrates just how long and persistent German institutional memory can be, and who can embody it, even in cases where there may not be a direct link with a German university like the Technical University of Munich.)
His official record states that he was a leading Stasi officer in the former communist East Germany. He was a handler for many of the notorious “I.M.’s,” (German initials for “Inoffizielle Mitarbeiter”) or “Unofficial Colleagues,” i.e., informers who spied on their friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Because of the efforts of this officer and other like him, people were sent to prison for simply wanting to leave East Germany.
And today this man works in the Office of Criminal Investigation of one of the post-reunification German states, as a civil servant and department head, this man, who was once an interrogator in Stasi Department IX, the department that staged the “trials” of political prisoners in East Germany.

Die Technische Universität München* – „In Deutschland sterben Stasi-Agenten nie, sie wechseln einfach die Uniformen“ – 16
Aus seinem Vorgangsheft geht hervor: Als Führungsoffizier führte er viele IMs, also Spitzel und war mitverantwortlich, dass Menschen ins Gefängnis mussten, wie bei der Stasi-Operation “Fiber”, nur weil sie die DDR verlassen wollten.
Und auch dieser Mann arbeitet heute im LKA als Dezernatsleiter. Er war Vernehmer, auch in der Abteilung IX der Stasi, der Abteilung, die die Prozesse für die politischen Häftlinge inszenierte.
