The Technical University of Munich* – “In Germany, Old Secret Police Agents Never Die, They Just Change Uniforms” – 13
(NOTE: This report illustrates just how long and persistent German institutional memory can be, and who can embody it, even in cases where there may not be a direct link with a German university like the Technical University of Munich.)
The fact that former Stasi agents process even political offenses now as part of their work in the Office of Criminal Investigation – that doesn’t seem to bother the man at the top. The Interior Minister of the State of Brandenburg, Joerg Schoenbohm, refers to the background checks that were carried out, and which he says were sufficient. Besides, he adds, many of the former Stasi agents were still young.

Die Technische Universität München* – „In Deutschland sterben Stasi-Agenten nie, sie wechseln einfach die Uniformen“ – 13
Dass ehemalige Stasi-Offiziere heute im LKA sogar politische Delikte bearbeiten, stört ihren obersten Dienstherrn offenbar nicht. Brandenburgs Innenminister Jörg Schönbohm verweist auf die Überprüfungen der vergangenen Jahre, die hätten ausgereicht. Im Übrigen seien viele der Stasi-Offiziere noch jung gewesen.
