Veiel added that this situation has to change: “Halberstadt is certainly a town that fits the cliché of a “dark Germany.” However, where you have darkness, you also have a lot of light. It would be wrong to point the finger at Halberstadt and leave it at that. There are people in the town who are involved in struggling against what is wrong, and they deserve support.”

Dies müsse sich dringend ändern: “Sicherlich ist Halberstadt eine Stadt, die teilweise dem Klischee von Dunkeldeutschland entspricht. Aber wo viel Dunkel ist, ist auch viel Licht. Es wäre falsch, jetzt mit dem Finger auf Halberstadt zu zeigen und dadurch zu resignieren. Man muss diejenigen, die sich engagieren, unterstützen!”
