At the end of June, in response to the situation in Halberstadt, a number of prominent German authors and directors visited the town: Klaus Staeck, Wibke Bruhns, and Rolf Hochhuth. A well-known documentary film-maker, Andres Veiel, spoke of a “responsibility vacuum” among the local population, where right-wing violence was concerned. He said there was a “look-the-other-way” or “it’s-not-my-problem” culture.

Aus diesem Anlass sind Ende Juni 2008 prominente Autoren und Regisseure wie Klaus Staeck, Wibke Bruhns und Rolf Hochhuth nach Halberstadt gekommen. Der renommierte Dokumentarfilmer Andres Veiel spricht im Zusammenhang mit der rechten Gewalt von einem Verantwortungsvakuum und einer Kultur des Wegschauens oder des Nicht-Zuständig-Seins.
