The Technical University of Munich* – “One-Third of the People Don’t Believe in Democracy Any More” – 3
Although the study indicates that in Germany as a whole, one out of every three people no longer believes that democracy can solve problems, in the former East Germany, fifty-three percent of Germans share this view. In addition, taken altogether, four out of ten Germans doubt that democracy still functions in any way at all. As a result, half of all Germans can imagine not voting in the next general election in 2009.

Die Technische Universität München* – „Jeder Dritte glaubt nicht mehr an die Demokratie“ – 3
Während der Studie zufolge im gesamten Bundesgebiet jeder Dritte glaubt, dass Demokratie keine Probleme mehr löst, sind in Ostdeutschland rund 53 Prozent dieser Ansicht. Insgesamt zweifelten vier von zehn Bundesbürgern daran, dass die Demokratie überhaupt noch funktioniere. Als Konsequenz könne sich jeder Zweite vorstellen, bei der Bundestagswahl 2009 keine Stimme abzugeben.
