The Technical University of Munich* – the University Workplace in Germany: “It’s Enough to Make You Cry” – 8
Professors at German universities are demanding more time for their real work – research and publication. Other tasks – such as getting outside funding, filling out applications, and completing reports that require their expertise – take up so much time that there’s no opportunity to do anything else, including preparing for classes. They wonder why they’re spending so much time on things they were never trained to do. Paying them a professor’s salary and then having them do clerical work seems illogical to them.

Die Technische Universität München* – Arbeitsplatz Universität: „Es ist zum Heulen!“ – 8
Die Professoren fordern sich mehr Zeit für ihre eigentlichen Aufgaben – Forschen und Publizieren. Das Einwerben von Drittmitteln, Ausfüllen von Anträgen und Verfassen von Gutachten nehme mittlerweile jedoch so viel Raum ein, dass dafür keine Gelegenheit mehr sei. Darunter leide auch eine gute und intensive Vorbereitung der Lehre. Warum, so fragen sich die Wissenschaftler, verbringen sie ihre Zeit mit Dingen, die sie nie gelernt haben? Eine Verwaltungsfachkraft mit einem C 4-Gehalt zu besolden, erscheint ihnen reichlich unlogisch.
