“Professor Do-Nothing”? At the Technical University of Munich? – 1
“Professors at German universities have it really good: they have a high income, a generous state pension when they retire, they cannot be fired, and they have no supervisor to whom they are directly accountable. And on average, they receive 585,000 euros (782,000 U.S. dollars) for research.
“Appearances are deceptive, though. Uwe Kamenz and Martin Wehrle have discovered that out of 38,000 professors at German universities, half do nothing, are lazy and inefficient, have been giving the same lectures for the past twenty years, and let their doctoral candidates do all their work. These professors do, however, show an extraordinary sense of commitment when it comes to well-paid jobs outside the university.”

„Professoren haben es gut: Sie haben ein hohes gesichertes Einkommen, hohe Pensionen, sie sind unkündbar, haben keine direkten Vorgesetzten. Und sie erhalten vom Land im Durchschnitt 585.000 Euro für die Forschung. Doch der Schein trügt: Uwe Kamenz und Martin Wehrle haben herausgefunden, dass von 38.000 deutschen Professoren die Hälfte untätig, faul und ineffizient ist, seit 20 Jahren die gleiche Vorlesung hält und Doktoranden für sich arbeiten lässt. Engagement zeigen Professoren höchstens im gut bezahlten Nebenjob.”
