”At any rate, Sabine Todt’s colleague, Thomas Kloss, is not working entirely without a salary. He’s paid one euro ($1.33) an hour, but the payment comes from the labor office, not the university.
“Thomas Kloss, a so-called ‘One-Euro-Worker,’ is employed at the University of Hamburg’s Institute for Criminology. During this period he’s already carried out advanced research under assignment from the German federal government, and he’s happy that he can add this to his resume.
“The head of the institute tries to find something positive in the situation. He says that One-Euro-Academics like Thomas Kloss can regain their will to go on struggling when they accept such work, even with its lower status.”

„Ihr Kollege Thomas Kloss arbeitet immerhin nicht völlig ohne Lohn, sondern für einen Euro in der Stunde. Doch den bezahlt das Arbeitsamt. Thomas Kloss ist Ein-Euro-Jobber am Institut für Kriminologie. Er hat in dieser Zeit schon Spitzenforschung im Auftrag der Bundesregierung betrieben und ist froh, das in seinen Lebenslauf schreiben zu können. Der Institutsleiter versucht auch etwas Positives zu finden: Bei so einem Abstieg komme bei den Ein-Euro-Akademikern immerhin der Kampfeswille wieder.“
