“Somehow, given the conditions at German universities, it is not surprising that not a single representative of the universities themselves was present at the Boston meetings. Margret Wintermantel, President of the Conference of German University Rectors, had to cancel at short notice, nor did any of her vice-presidents manage to make it to Boston. That fact surely did little to encourage participants’ enthusiasm for a return to Germany.”

„In dieses Bild passte nur zu gut, dass ausgerechnet die deutschen Hochschulen auf der Tagung nicht präsent waren. Margret Wintermantel, die Präsidentin der Hochschulrektorenkonferenz, hatte kurzfristig absagen müssen; auch von ihren Vizepräsidenten hatte keiner den Weg nach Boston gefunden. Das dürfte bei den Jungen die Lust an der Rückkehr nicht gerade gefördert haben.”
