Orientation and A Hurricane

We’re planning to hold orientation sessions as scheduled on Friday and Saturday (but check your email for last minute changes).

Since most predictions for Sunday are grim, we are making a few changes.

We plan to hold the morning tours as scheduled

Then, in lieu of the scavenger hunt, we have rented parts of Jillian’s from 12:30-3:30 for bowling and pool. We’ll provide snacks and soft drinks and there will be a cash bar.

Later that day, we’ll hold the ice-cream social and movie night indoors. More info about the changes will be available at Registration.

Hurricane Update

Hurricane Irene, a Category 3 storm, is expected to impact Massachusetts as early as this weekend.  The National Hurricane Center’s projected track shows the center of Irene passing through Massachusetts Sunday night and Monday morning as a Category 1 or 2 storm, or possibly a weak Category 3.  Irene is still several days out, however, and the projected track could potentially be off by as much as 200 miles and the projected timing by 6 to 8 hours

The University is communicating with students faculty and staff to ensure that everyone is aware of the possible storm and available resources.

Before the storm

If you don’t have a flashlight, this is a good time to get one.  For students in the dorms, there is approximately one hour of emergency lighting in the stairwells and hallways.  RAs will have flashlights.

Please remember to charge your cell phones and laptops, backup your files, and have a small amount of cash on hand (in case stores are open but cannot use credit/debit cards)

Keep items of value (sentimental or otherwise) off the floor (if you are on the ground floor or below) and off the window sills in case of flooding.

During the storm

Keep all windows and doors closed and secured

Stay inside

Keep a flashlight near for power loss (do not use candles)

Turn off unnecessary lighting and equipment (including computers and monitors)

Contact Harvard Police (617-495-1212) in the event of an emergency 

After the storm

Report any Harvard facility related damage and emergencies to the University Operations Center at 617-495-5560 (available 24 hours a day)

Check www.emergency.harvard.edu and 1-866-496-NEWS for post-hurricane instructions

We will continue to monitor the path of the hurricane and the forecast, and will keep you updated if conditions change.

Physician Assignments
Students can access their Primary Care Physician (PCP) assignments via HUHS’s Patient Online portal. Visit https://www.pin1.harvard.edu/pin/authenticate?__authen_application=UHS_PORTAL to log in see who your PCP is.

The waiver deadline is August 31, 2011

The Handbook contains the School’s academic rules and policies, including detailed information about the requirements for degrees, registration and submission deadlines for all academic work, and policies regarding exams, academic honesty, and leaves of absence.

Classroom Reservations For Fall Now Online

1L Registration Information

Dear 1L Students,
Greetings!  As part of the registration process for the fall term, we ask that you provide us with your contact information by logging into  MyPlan (https://myplan.law.harvard.edu) and accessing the “Address change Form”.  Please note for those students who want to pick up their cash advance checks from Student Financial Services on Friday, August 26th at orientation you will need to have completed this form by 5pm on August 23.

Login to MyPlan using the same user name as your HLS email followed by .jd14.  Your password will be the same as the password you have been using for your HLS email account.

Here is an example using my name:

User Name: lburns.jd14
Password: (Your HLS email password)

Once logged in, click “Current Students,” then click on “Address Change Form”.  There are three main categories on this page.  Please note:  all asterisked fields are required.

·         Current address information – we ask that you enter your “local” or Cambridge address, as well as your “permanent” (where you live when you’re not at HLS) address.
·         Emergency Contact information – we require that you provide us with emergency contact information each year.  This is a requirement of your registration.
·         Intent to return check box – Please ignore this box as it is intended for the returning 2 and 3L students.

This process must be completed by August 31.

Once you have completed the form, please click the “Submit” button.

A Few Start of Term Reminders

Greetings.  I wanted to share with you a list of important dates and reminders regarding the start of fall term.  Please let us know if you have any questions registrar@law.harvard.edu .

2.       Cash Advance Checks – For those students who want to pick up their Cash Advance checks from Student Financial Services on Friday, August 26th will need to have completed the check in process by 5pm on August 23.  Anyone completing the check in process after this date will be able to receive their Cash Advance on a rolling basis.
3.       Add/Drop – is currently available in MyPlan and will run through September 16.
4.       Waitlist Processing – will begin on August 30 and run through September 16.  During this time, please keep an eye on your HLS email for invitations to add available courses.
5.       Fire Sale  – on Monday, September 19 we will run our annual Fire Sale of all available seats.  Look for more information to come.

Building Hours For Returning Students

Welcome back!

We will be offering scheduled tours of the new WCC building during the fall semester but since many of you are here early, we wanted to offer you a preview.  If you are interested in a tour of the new WCC building in the next few days, please read on:

We have tours scheduled on Tuesday August 16, Thursday August 18, and Tuesday August 23, starting at 3:30, 4:00, and 4:30 pm and lasting 20-25 minutes each.  The tours are available on a first come, first served basis.

·         Click the day and time you wish to take the tour.
·         If spots are available in your chosen time, click ‘New Reservation’
·         Enter your full name and HLS e-mail then click ‘Create Reservation’

The building is still a construction site.  While hard hats and goggles are no longer required, we do ask that you wear flat, closed-toe shoes.

Tours will depart from the walkway between the Hark and Story Hall. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time with appropriate shoes and your HUID.

No photos or video may be taken during the tour.
