The Internet Archive is hosting an event on the Future of Books on 10/19 in San Fransisco:
Together with O’Reilly Media, Threepress, Feedbooks, OLPC, Adobe, the Book Oven, and others, we have developed an open specification to provide a web-based, mobile-friendly distribution mechanism for digital books.
