Well, I&#8217;m a recidivist, I guess &#8230;back- (or is that &#8220;up-&#8220;?) sliding to a more-comfortable-for-me number.  I finished my December article for <em>FOCUS Magazine<\/em>, and here&#8217;s what google doc&#8217;s &#8220;word count analysis&#8221; tells me:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<table border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"4\" cellspacing=\"0\">\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<td colspan=\"2\" nowrap=\"nowrap\"><strong>Readability<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Average sentences per paragraph:     4.85<br \/>\nAverage words per sentence:     13.14<br \/>\nAverage characters per word:     5.80<br \/>\nAverage words per page:     414.00<br \/>\nFlesch Reading Ease: [?]     39.21<br \/>\nFlesch-Kincaid Grade Level: [?]     11.00<br \/>\nAutomated Readability Index: [?]     12.00<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Oh well, eh?  According to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Flesch-Kincaid_Readability_Test\">Wikipedia&#8217;s entry on the Flesch-Kincaid index<\/a>, I just escaped the Harvard Law Review orbit&#8230;!<\/p>\n<p>(*) And, <em>mea culpa<\/em>, I just looked at that entry from Oct.24 and realize that the read-out wasn&#8217;t fully reproduced.  I will try to find the old draft now and fix\/ update last week&#8217;s entry &#8212; the point was that my &#8220;Flesch Reading Ease&#8221; was somewhere in the 50s (I think?), and the &#8220;Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level&#8221; was 9.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Exactly one week ago I posted an entry called Writing for magazines: what level of difficulty?
