He is a connoisseur of high-end collectable mechanical watches, and he occasionally &#8212; well, ok: <i>often!<\/i>  &#8212; goes slumming on websites that advertise watches.  During dinner preparations, he sent me this:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/europastar.com\/europastar\/headlines\/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000901604\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"161\" src=\"http:\/\/europastar.com\/europastar\/photos\/03_2005\/Magazine_205\/techno205_2.jpg\" width=\"500\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nI don&#8217;t know about anyone else, but this kind of stuff ranks right up there with fetish-porn.  So what&#8217;s the connection to real porn?  Well, how do you spell m-o-n-e-y?  <\/p>\n<p>Wristwatches sell for ridiculously high amounts &#8212; except, of course, these prices aren&#8217;t ridiculous since some people can pay them.  But you have to wonder what kind of world we&#8217;re living in when mass-market publications (like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/\">Harper&#8217;s Bizarre<\/a>, for example) tout wristwatches in their articles (not to mention in their ads), which retail for around US$40K (these are articles aimed at your fashion-conscious working girl who wants to get ahead).  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/\">Bizarre<\/a> is a mass market platform &#8212; there are of course wristwatches ten times the price, and they get sold&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>\nWow, baby: what kind of promises on returns did they make <b>you<\/b>?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"127\" src=\"http:\/\/europastar.com\/europastar\/photos\/\/03_2005\/Magazine_205\/techno205_vign.jpg\" width=\"179\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My husband really has this &#8230;um, thing, for wristwatches.
