You know, like parents grow up kids?<\/p>\n<p>It seems our projects and responsibilities get bigger, same as when kids grow up and have to take on more responsibilities. I can recall when the prospect of cleaning up a major river &#8211; say, the Rhine or the Thames &#8211; was considered nearly impossible. But it&#8217;s done now.<\/p>\n<p>What if Margulis and Sagan and Lovelock et al. are right, and earth is a living organism &#8211; wouldn&#8217;t it be growing us up?
