He was 75.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hsiao received his Ph.D. from Department of Far Eastern Languages and Civilizations (now EALC) in 1969, under the supervision of Yang Lien-sheng and Francis W. Cleaves. His dissertation, The Military<\/p>\n<div>Establishment of the Yuan Dynasty, was later published by Council on East Asian Studies of Harvard University. After that, he published widely on the military, social and cultural history of the Yuan dynasty, focusing especially on the multi-ethnicity in China proper under the Mongolian empire. He taught in the U.S., Singapore and Taiwan.
