In its second weekend in theaters, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/envelope\/cotown\/la-et-ct-hunger-games-catching-fire-frozen-black-nativity-20131126,0,5812488.story#axzz2m9m2mXu9\">The Hunger Games: Catching Fire<\/a>\u201d is on a course to not only come in first; it may score one of the most robust opening weekends in movie history.<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><em>The sci-fi sequel to 2012\u2019s \u201cThe Hunger Games,\u201d \u00a0\u201cCatching Fire\u201d hauled in $31.2 million Friday, putting it in position to smash the five-day Thanksgiving holiday record &#8212; of $82 million held by \u201cHarry Potter and the Sorcerer\u2019s Stone\u201d &#8212; with a projected $113 million gross. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Disney animated kids\u2019 flick \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/movies\/moviesnow\/la-et-mn-frozen-walt-disney-speech-on-women-animators-20131129,0,4780296.story#axzz2m9m2mXu9\">Frozen<\/a>\u201d took in a robust $26.8 million for second place, also putting the Hans Christian Andersen-based fairy tale film on track to break the \u201cSorcerer\u2019s Stone\u201d record with a projected five-day take of around $93 million<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/movies\/moviesnow\/la-et-mn-holiday-box-office-catching-fire-and-frozen-on-track-to-break-record-20131130,0,7037146.story#ixzz2mF1G9G3C\">http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/movies\/moviesnow\/la-et-mn-holiday-box-office-catching-fire-and-frozen-on-track-to-break-record-20131130,0,7037146.story#ixzz2mF1G9G3C<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click here for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TbQm5doF_Uc\">Frozen<\/a>\u00a0trailer.<\/p>\n<p>And here&#8217;s Brooks Barnes on the \u00a0<em>Frozen<\/em> and how it was marketed to girls\u00a0<em>and\u00a0<\/em>boys:<\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/12\/02\/movies\/frozen-disneys-new-fairy-tale-is-no-2-at-box-office.html?hp<\/p>\n<p>For \u201cFrozen,\u201d very loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/movies.nytimes.com\/gst\/movies\/titlelist.html?v_idlist=45371;45372;45374;45375;171928;182629;372271;372272&amp;inline=nyt_ttl\">\u201cThe Snow Queen,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0Disney\u2019s marketing ploys seemed to work. About 43 percent of the opening-weekend audience for the movie was male, according to exit polls.
