{"id":875,"date":"2010-01-07T11:07:27","date_gmt":"2010-01-07T18:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/sweetpea\/?p=875"},"modified":"2010-01-07T11:12:09","modified_gmt":"2010-01-07T18:12:09","slug":"resolutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/sweetpea\/2010\/01\/07\/resolutions\/","title":{"rendered":"Resolutions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t really make resolutions, but each year I tell myself I&#8217;m going to be better about dieting and exercising.\u00a0\u00a0Sadly,\u00a0eating better becomes more important each year\u00a0as my metabolism slows down and I&#8217;m no longer able to eat an entire box of See&#8217;s candy with impunity, no matter how much I exercise.\u00a0 =(<\/p>\n<p>Eating better is more complicated with T in the mix since I try to prepare foods he would like as well.\u00a0 I could eat the same thing for a week and not get bored, but he generally needs more variety.\u00a0\u00a0Between the lack of time and the inability to decide what to cook, we end up eating out a lot.\u00a0 This year, I&#8217;m going to try to cook healthier meals at home at least twice a week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On that note, I made\u00a0mushroom risotto and scallops\u00a0(not super healthy but better than what we&#8217;d eat in a restaurant) and\u00a0salmon with rice and\u00a0broccoli earlier this week.\u00a0 The risotto and scallops were yummy.\u00a0 The salmon was solely for T as I hate salmon.\u00a0 I had a store bought roasted chicken instead.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by my friend S, I made <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quinoa\" target=\"_blank\">quinoa<\/a> last night.\u00a0 It\u00a0turned out to be super easy and was pretty good.\u00a0\u00a0T\u00a0was out late bowling and I was too lazy to make a main dish, so I just had it with the roasted chicken I&#8217;d bought earlier in the week.\u00a0\u00a0This apparently wasn&#8217;t appealing enough, so\u00a0T\u00a0opted for a sandwhich when he got home.\u00a0 Today, I think I&#8217;ll use the rest of the quinoa and\u00a0chicken in a stir fry.\u00a0 Hopefully that will tempt him to try some.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During my trip to Trader Joe&#8217;s yesterday, I also picked up some steel cut oats, almond butter, pumpkin butter, flax seed meal, and polenta (again inspired by S and several food blogs I read).\u00a0 I had the steel cut oats this morning with 1\/2 banana, a bit of almond butter, flax seed meal and a smidge of brown sugar.\u00a0 It was super filling.\u00a0 Not quite as good as rolled oats, but I feel fuller (may be the flax seed).\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see if this lasts &#8217;til lunch!<\/p>\n<p>As for the exercise part, so far, so good.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been half-heartedly training for the LA Marathon up until this point &#8211;
