{"id":189,"date":"2006-04-06T20:29:34","date_gmt":"2006-04-07T00:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/sweetpea\/2006\/04\/06\/whale\/"},"modified":"2006-06-24T17:36:43","modified_gmt":"2006-06-25T00:36:43","slug":"whale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/sweetpea\/2006\/04\/06\/whale\/","title":{"rendered":"Whale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">I read an article yesterday about the increasing <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/afp\/20060406\/hl_afp\/vietnamhealthday_060406045810\">weight problem in Vietnam<\/a>.\u00a0 One of the cases mentioned was of\u00a0a young girl who weighs 114 pounds&#8230; and is 5&#8217;3&#8243;.\u00a0 Um, does that strike anyone else as off?\u00a0 Admittedly, she&#8217;s only eleven, but still, 114 pounds at 5&#8217;3&#8243; is problematic?\u00a0 That must be a mistake, right?\u00a0 RIGHT?\u00a0 PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF\u00a0GOD TELL ME IT&#8217;S A MISTAKE!<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">*Deep breath*<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Roomie told me a story about an\u00a0American born Taiwanese friend of hers who visited Taiwan several years ago and made the mistake of shopping for jeans.\u00a0 Asian women, at least those not raised in the States, tend to be very, very thin and generally pretty short.\u00a0 Roomie&#8217;s friend K was forced to buy jeans made by a brand that, roughly translated, means &#8220;Whale.&#8221;\u00a0 Thankfully, I didn&#8217;t attempt to buy jeans while I was in Vietnam.\u00a0 If being 114 pounds at 5&#8217;3&#8243; is reflective of Vietnam&#8217;s obesity problem, then I may never go to back to\u00a0my native country&#8230;although this does go a long way towards explaining why my Grandmother is always calling me chubby.\u00a0 Who knew she was probably being nice and understating the case?<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Since I&#8217;m on the issue of weight (I know &#8211; when aren&#8217;t I on the issue of weight?), I love <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bunnyshop.org\/bunnyshop\/2006\/04\/_have_we_mentio.html#comments\">this rant<\/a>.\u00a0 There&#8217;s an excerpt from J.K.
