With the state of the world today, I really get disturbed when I see stats on the state of the global economy and where we spend money.\u00a0 According to the Institute of Policy Studies, there are nearly 1.3 billion people with an income of less than a $1USD a day, living in basic poverty.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They certainly have difficulties, with many of them not affording basic services such as immunization for children, literacy, drinking water, food and reproductive health for all.\u00a0 According to the 2004 State of the World report, such services would cost approximately $41 billion a year.<\/p>\n
Lots of money, but when you compare it to what we spend on the following, I really do wonder:<\/p>\n
Cosmetics – $18 billion<\/p>\n
Perfume – $15B<\/p>\n
Ocean cruises – $14B<\/p>\n
Cigarettes in Europe – $50B<\/p>\n
Narcotic drugs – $400B<\/p>\n
Military expenditures – $780B<\/p>\n
