Our global spending priorities are messed up

ø

With the state of the world today, I really get disturbed when I see stats on the state of the global economy and where we spend money.  According to the Institute of Policy Studies, there are nearly 1.3 billion people with an income of less than a $1USD a day, living in basic poverty.

They certainly have difficulties, with many of them not affording basic services such as immunization for children, literacy, drinking water, food and reproductive health for all.  According to the 2004 State of the World report, such services would cost approximately $41 billion a year.

Lots of money, but when you compare it to what we spend on the following, I really do wonder:

Cosmetics – $18 billion

Perfume – $15B

Ocean cruises – $14B

Cigarettes in Europe – $50B

Narcotic drugs – $400B

Military expenditures – $780B

Where are our priorities in this world?????
