Play, or \u73a9 (say wan), is ubiquitous. Little kids running around after school &#8212; they&#8217;re going out to \u73a9. Old people playing cards or mah jiang &#8212; they like to \u73a9. Young people drinking themselves silly and dancing &#8212; oh they&#8217;re just \u73a9-ing. Plaything &#8212; \u73a9\u827a\u513f &#8212; encompasses everything from dolls to fireworks to condoms.
