Hark Fireplace – Ahhh!

ø

Sure there have been lots of budget cuts recently, but who can blame us for wanting to sit by a nice fire while reading in the Hark.  Facilities has agreed to begin turning the fireplace on daily for the remainder of the heating season.  Enjoy!

ø

We worked with the Communications office on the recent news@law changes.  The goal was to consolidate sources and get more info to students at one time, and in one place, by including Administrative Updates.  What do you think of the changes?

Gmail forwarding issue may be back – UPDATE

ø

UPDATE:  According to IT the issue should be resolved with Google.  Email delays are thought to have been resolved going forward, but you should be aware of potentially lost emails that you sent or expected to receive from Friday afternoon to Sunday, 12:43 pm.

From HLS IT, spread the word:

HLS IT has learned that Google (Gmail) is blocking email messages sent from HLS sponsored student email accounts.  This affects students who forwarded their email from HLS to Gmail, or who send outgoing email from HLS to other Gmail recipients.

The issue appears to have been triggered as a protective measure against spam, which commonly involves large volumes of email from a single source.  HLS IT is working with Google to repair this issue.

HLS IT has chosen not to send a community wide email (which will just compound the issue) regarding this situation.  Please look for posts to this blog for an update.

Thanks,

Jason Fuller, Manager of Technology Support Services

Exam 4 and Windows 7

ø

Yesterday the Registrar’s office sent out an informational email about Exam4. In the email they indicated that students using Windows7 would not be able to use Exam4, and that to complete their exams they would have to either borrow a laptop or hand write the exam. This seems like it could be a problem for students that upgraded earlier in the semester without an awareness of this potential complication.

To assist the registrar’s office in assessing the scope of this problem, we need to get a sense of how many people will be affected by it. If you are already running Windows7 and will be affected by this conflict with Exam4 software, please respond to this post so that we may present the registrar’s office with an approximate headcount of those students that are confronted by this issue.

Academic Advising

4

We’ve heard from a lot of students lately that would like to see a different academic advising program in place here at HLS.  Obviously, this is an issue of great importance and the administration is willing to talk with us about it, but before we get too involved in the conversation, we’d first like to hear from you.  What would you like to see in an academic advising program at HLS?  What do you like about what is in place now?  Please leave your comments below, or if you’d like them to be more private, send an email to studentgov@law.harvard.edu.

Weekly Comment Box – Updated

5

NEW to Student Government (new! how exciting!): our weekly comment box. Of course you can always email us with concerns (studentgov@law.harvard.edu) but if there’s little things around campus that need fixing but don’t need a whole email (aka: this bathroom door is busted, this printer isn’t working etc) feel free to quickly post it here, too, if it’s easier for you.
