{"id":58,"date":"2004-05-21T01:01:13","date_gmt":"2004-05-21T05:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/stepno\/2004\/05\/21\/may-20-thursday-at-berkman\/"},"modified":"2004-05-21T01:01:13","modified_gmt":"2004-05-21T05:01:13","slug":"may-20-thursday-at-berkman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.blogs.harvard.edu\/stepno\/2004\/05\/21\/may-20-thursday-at-berkman\/","title":{"rendered":"May 20 Thursday at Berkman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name='a70'><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We had a relatively low-tech <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.law.harvard.edu\/thursdaymeetings\/\">Thursday night at Berkman Center<\/a>, with no<br \/>\nwebcast or IRC, but with some new bloggers, new sites to look at, and a<br \/>\ndiscussion of aggregators and RSS features led by <a href=\"http:\/\/grumet.net\/weblog\/archives\/2004\/05\/20\/000857.html\">Andrew Grumet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Newcomers&nbsp; included Jill Fallon (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.estatevaults.com\/lm\/\">Legacy Matters<\/a>) and Bill Ives (<a href=\"http:\/\/billives.typepad.com\/portals_and_km\/\">Portals and KM<\/a>), who were both curious about ways to incorporate RSS feeds and aggregators in their special-topic blogs.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Williams said reading other blogs in an aggregator has become a central part of writing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cadence90.com\/blogs\/nixon.html\">her own blog<\/a>, while <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blogrolling.com\/\">blogrolling.com<\/a> serves up her site&#8217;s list of more than 100 favorite blogs. <\/p>\n<p>Along with an overview of RSS aggregators as a quick way to keep up<br \/>\nwith dozens of constantly-changing blogs, Andrew showed how he uses a <a href=\"http:\/\/radio.userland.com\">Radio<\/a> aggregator to not only read news, but poll an uptime monitor for <a href=\"http:\/\/grumet.net\/weblog\/archives\/2004\/05\/20\/000857.html\">grumet.net<\/a>. He also demonstrated the <a href=\"http:\/\/grumet.net\/syo\">Share Your OPML<\/a> services he has created, including <a href=\"http:\/\/grumet.net\/syo\/findThatFeed\">find that feed<\/a>, and pointed to <a href=\"http:\/\/syndic8.com\">Syndic8<\/a> as a place to track down even more feeds. <\/p>\n<p>On the subject of building and extending blogging tools, Shimon Rura demonstrated his <a href=\"http:\/\/frassle.rura.org\/Directory\/index?cat=31\">Frassle<\/a> site&#8217;s menu and outlining, and Lisa pointed to several tools she uses.<\/p>\n<p>Other sites and blogging tools that added to the discussion:<a href=\"%0Ahttp:\/\/bloglines.com\"><\/p>\n<p>http:\/\/bloglines.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/activerenderer.com\/\"><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/activerenderer.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/demo.weboutliner.com\/weboutliner\/\"><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/demo.weboutliner.com\/weboutliner\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kung-foo.tv\/ecto\/\"><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.kung-foo.tv\/ecto\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wbloggar.com\/\"><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/wbloggar.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/watchblog.org\">http:\/\/watchblog.org<br \/>\n<\/a><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/boston-online.com\/common\"><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/boston-online.com\/common<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brainoff.com\/geoblog\"><br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.brainoff.com\/geoblog<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I must have had something to say <a href=\"http:\/\/radio.weblogs.com\/0106327\/\">myself<\/a> during the meeting, but<br \/>\nrecovering some lost notes and typing this post are about all I&nbsp;<br \/>\nhave time for tonight.
